Washington, D.C. – While home for recess, House Republicans got an earful from their constituents as thousands joined rallies, protests, and town halls urging their representatives to put their interests first, and oppose cuts to Medicaid and essential services to fund tax breaks for the wealthy. This overwhelming opposition from the public will be front of mind for lawmakers as they return to Washington and begin markups on their Billionaire Tax Scam.

Nick Begich – Protest: “Alaskans gathered in Anchorage to speak up and push back against possible cuts to Medicaid. … The rally here was organized by caregivers and health care advocates. Some people who rely on Medicaid shared personal stories in hopes of making it clear to lawmakers just how vital the program is.”
- AZ-06, Rep. Juan Ciscomani – Protest: “About forty people gathered on the southside to protest President Donald Trump and Congressman Juan Ciscomani’s policies.”
- CA-03, Rep. Kevin Kiley – Rally: “Hundreds of demonstrators urged the Republican congressman to block cuts to Medicaid. … Demonstrators told Fox 40 that they are concerned it would especially hurt seniors and those with disabilities[.]”
- CA-22, Rep. David Valadao – Rally: “Supporters of federal health care programs like Medicaid and Medicare organized another rally in front of Congressman David Valadao’s district office in downtown Bakersfield last week. These protests, in the backdrop of Congress trying to cut federal spending in its new budget bill.”
- CA-40, Rep. Young Kim – Rally: “Organizers say today’s protest comes over Rep. Kim’s support for a February bill that they say threatens health care to thousands of her constituents.”
- CA-41, Rep. Ken Calvert – Protest: “Hundreds of people turned out to protest potential Medicaid cuts for people with disabilities. This was a protest that was held outside Republican Congressman Ken Calvert’s office in Palm Desert, yesterday.”
- CO-03, Rep. Jeff Hurd – Protest: “A group in Pueblo wants their congressman to hear their concerns about Medicaid. The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees held a protest outside Congressman Jeff Hurd’s Pueblo office on Wednesday.”
- CO-08, Rep. Gabe Evans – Town Hall: “Democrats, progressive groups and constituents in Colorado’s 8th Congressional District are keeping up the pressure on Republican U.S. Rep Gabe Evans of Fort Lupton.”
- IL-16, Rep. Darin LaHood – Protest: “The sidewalks and the street were taken up by people with signs, asking for LaHood, the Congressman, to hold a town hall. … Signs requesting the Congressman to not cut Medicaid could also be seen.”
- MI-01, Rep. Jack Bergman – Protest: “Concerned citizens made their voices heard outside the Holiday Inn Marquette on Saturday before Rep. Jack Bergman attended a county GOP fundraiser.”
- MI-07, Rep. Tom Barrett – Town Hall: “[D]ozens of constituents of Barrett’s 7th Congressional District gathered at the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 333 in South Lansing to vent their frustrations about the policies and changes initiated by the Trump administration. […] Medicaid and Social Security, among other concerns that were targeted toward Barrett’s empty chair.”

John McGuire – Town Hall: “Roughly 1,000 people from the area filled up Charlottesville High School’s Performing Arts Center[.] … Some of the most common concerns shared included cuts to federal funding, with many calling for McGuire to take a stronger stance against President Trump’s actions.”
