NEW POLL: GOP Tax Bill Massively Unpopular, With Support from Only 14% of Americans

Washington, D.C. – Today, a stunning new poll revealed that Republicans’ Billionaire Tax Scam is overwhelmingly unpopular with the American people. While Republicans continue to push their legislation through committee in the House, the new poll – from former 538 and ABC data analytics director G. Elliot Morris – revealed that only 14% of Americans support Republicans’ plans to cut programs like Medicaid and food assistance to pay for more billionaire tax breaks.

While it’s shocking that Republicans are continuing to advance such an unpopular plan, the data itself confirms what countless other polls and widespread opposition have already made clear: no one supports Republicans’ plan to put billionaires over working families.

Key Findings:

  • Only 14% of Americans support decreasing spending on social services, such as education, health care, and food for the poor, so Congress can extend Trump’s tax cuts.
  • Most Americans (58%) would rather raise taxes on corporations and high-income families to keep spending and pay down the deficit.
  • Republicans’ tax plan is still unpopular even if you strip out the spending cuts, with only 10% of Americans supporting extending the tax cuts while keeping spending constant and increasing the deficit.
