Washington, D.C. – On Saturday, during ‘No Kings’ nationwide protests, millions of everyday Americans voiced their opposition to Trump and Republicans’ Billionaire Tax Scam which would slash Medicaid and food assistance to give tax breaks to billionaires. As the Senate prepares to vote on this harmful legislation, Americans all across the country are speaking out.
See below some of the opposition to Republicans’ Billionaire Tax Scam during ‘No Kings’ protests this weekend:
Local Coverage:
San Diego, California: “Ron Penn, a 61-year-old disabled military veteran, said he attended to fight for the rights of all, not just vets. He also targeted the administration’s budget proposal now pending in the Senate known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” It would slash spending across hundreds of government programs, and contains tax cuts that would benefit the wealthy the most.”
Providence, Massachusetts: “Kelly Pereira of Providence held a sign that read, ‘My son needs Medicaid more than billionaires need tax cuts,’ referring to Medicaid cuts proposed in President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which the House approved and is currently under consideration in the Senate.”
High Point, North Carolina: “Protestors expressed a variety of concerns related to actions taken by the Trump administration. Many voiced their disapproval of big agenda items such as Trump’s mass deportation policy, tariffs, and potential legislation that would cut Medicaid and provide tax breaks for wealthy Americans.”
Wenatchee, Washington: “Other speakers opposed the president’s budget, claiming the new “Big Beautiful Bill” provides trillions of dollars in tax breaks to billionaires while cutting Medicaid.”
Remarks by Rally Attendees
Los Angeles, California: “We’ve got a budget bill that seeks to strip health care away from 14 million Americans. That seeks to strip food assistance away to the tune of 300 billion dollars. […] All at the hands of somebody who’s putting on full display who he works for. Stealing from the poor to give to the rich. Stealing from the many to give to the few.”
West Palm Beach, Florida: “[He wants] to distract us from his so-called ‘big, beautiful bill.’ I call it a big ugly bill, with cuts to […] Medicaid and the social safety nets for poor people. Hurting poor and working people to give bigger tax cuts to the billionaires. That is the height of immorality.”
Honolulu, Hawaii: “You’re cutting research and funding to all this stuff like science, healthcare, SNAP, Medicare, Medicaid. All of that is going away, but you want to give tax breaks to billionaires, well I pay more taxes since the 2017 tax plan and I’m a middle income person. I can’t even afford to buy a house in Hawaii, but I’m supposed to pay higher taxes so Jeff Bezos can get a tax break—no.”
Fort Wayne, Indiana: “Medicaid, Medicare, they essentially want to take from people who can barely afford to live now and give that money to billionaires. That just seems wrong.”
Shreveport, Louisiana: “We’re seeing billionaires that have more wealth than anywhere in history. They say, no, you shouldn’t have Social Security. No, you shouldn’t have Medicaid. That’s fraud, that’s waste and that’s abuse. But I should get $3.4 trillion worth of tax cuts.”
Baltimore, Maryland: “He’s … taking money away from Medicaid, taking away money from the people who need it and giving it to the people who don’t need it with tax cuts,”
Detroit, Michigan: “Medicaid, I don’t think people even realize the hardships that are going to come to everyday Americans from the middle class down, all to give a bunch of wealthy people more tax cuts. It’s infuriating.”
Rochester, Minnesota: “Do we still have a democracy when we have a Congress that takes SNAP and Medicaid away from our poorest neighbors in order to give tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations. Do we still have a democracy when we have representatives who willingly disregard the will of the people?”
Boonville, Missouri: “There’s no reason to make cuts on the backs of people who are seniors, who are disabled, and our children, to give tax breaks to the wealthiest of this country.”
Dallas, Texas: “‘Is it OK with you that Congress is passing—or trying to pass—a budget that defunds Medicaid for the benefit of billionaires?’ [civil rights attorney Bill Holston] concluded. ‘No!’ the crowd responded.”
Petersburg, Virginia: “And now they’re talking about cutting Medicaid for the most vulnerable people in our community so they can give tax cuts to the richest? I don’t understand it.”
