Washington, D.C. – Following final passage of Republicans’ Billionaire Tax Scam, Families Over Billionaires Director and former Executive Associate Director of the Office of Management and Budget Michael Linden released the following statement:
“Republicans’ vote for this Billionaire Tax Scam is an unprecedented betrayal of working Americans. Instead of addressing inflation and high costs, as they were sent to Washington to do, Republicans voted to raise costs on working families and kick 17 million people off their health care – all so Trump and his billionaire donors can get another massive tax break.
Republicans know this bill will hurt their constituents, and they know the public strongly opposes it. That’s why so many of them have admitted that they don’t want the bill to become law. Unfortunately, even knowing the extraordinary damage this cruel legislation will bring to communities nationwide, Republicans sold out their constituents to benefit billionaires. Words can’t do justice to how shameful this is.
But, this fight has always been bigger than one terrible tax bill. It’s a fight to ensure that our government works for the people it was elected to represent and not billionaires and giant corporations buying influence — and that fight is far from over. The American people overwhelmingly oppose this legislation and there will be a reckoning.”
