Washington, D.C. – Following the passage of Republicans’ Billionaire Tax Scam, Americans from all across the country are taking to the streets to voice their opposition to this cruel agenda to cut Medicaid and food assistance to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy. Here’s just some examples of the local protests holding Republican lawmakers accountable:

Fairfield, Connecticut: “[A] few dozen people gather near old town hall in Fairfield to protest a bill. […] Organizers say they wanted to express their frustrations toward cuts, made towards Medicaid[.]” 

Pensacola, Florida: “Today, some Pensacola residents came together to protest President Donald Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill.’ […] Most of the cuts will impact low-income Americans, especially those who are signed up for Medicaid and SNAP benefits.”

Davenport, Iowa: “Over 100 people gathering on Brady Street July 5th waving signs and speaking out against state politicians and President Trump while still celebrating American independence. […] Much of the protest focusing on President Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill act’ passing the House and Senate earlier this week. Opponents say the bill will cause sweeping cuts to Medicaid and SNAP programs.”

South Bend, Indiana: “Protesters say Trump has no power to take away Medicaid and SNAP, or food stamps, from people who really need help, while giving tax cuts to billionaires.”

Lexington, Kentucky: “People here in the Commonwealth are sharing their thoughts on President Trump’s budget bill, which was signed into law on Friday. […] [C]oncerns include losing rural hospitals and how Medicaid cuts will affect those who receive SNAP benefits.” 

Lafayette, Louisiana: “[T]he old city hall grounds here in Lafayette are filled on America’s birthday with people who believe our country is headed in the wrong direction. […] Protesters say they worry about America’s most vulnerable through cuts to Medicaid.”

St. Joseph, Missouri: “Protesters saying that the projected Medicaid cuts will harm rural communities, like Sarah Scott, who is a worker in the health care industry. She says that pretty much everyone she works with has Medicaid, and they’re left wondering what will happen to their coverage.”

Austin, Texas: “Demonstrators joined together here in Austin yesterday to protest the budget bill. They staged what they called “die-ins” outside the offices of Republican lawmakers. The protesters laid motionless near the offices to symbolize what they claim will be deaths caused by budget cuts. […] Protesters worry about the cuts to Medicaid and Medicare as well as SNAP food assistance.”

Salt Lake City, Utah: “About 100 Utahns spent the 4th of July at the state capitol protesting President Trump, his administration and the ‘big beautiful bill.’ […] They also have concerns about some of the President’s executive orders and the cuts to Medicaid that are part of the newly signed bill. They fear that bill will strip health care away from low-income people here in Utah.”

Richmond, Virginia: “A rally called in Richmond Saturday as demonstrators protest President Donald Trump’s ‘one big beautiful bill.’ […] Organizers say they’re speaking up to build movement against what they call President Trump’s bill for billionaires. One protester says she’s most concerned about the future of those relying on Medicaid.”
