LOCAL NEWS ROUNDUP >> EVERYDAY AMERICANS HEARING HOW THEIR COMMUNITIES WILL PAY THE PRICE FOR GOP’S BILLIONAIRE TAX SCAM

Washington, DC In local coverage across the country, everyday Americans are learning how the GOP Billionaire Tax Scam will raise costs on working families all to fund tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy. The truth about Republicans’ harmful law is breaking through in communities nationwide – here’s just a few examples:

Local TV Coverage

Montgomery, Alabama – “Meals on Wheels leaders in Alabama say they’re concerned about what SNAP and Medicaid cuts will mean for the program. Congress passed President Trump’s spending bill into law earlier this month, and Chris Turman, CEO of Meals on Wheels in Montgomery, says fundraising has been difficult for them since the pandemic, forcing them to leave open positions unfilled and the organization in need of even more community support.”

Benson, Arizona “Now that President Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ has been signed into law, concerns are growing about the potential impact on the nation’s health care system, specifically rural hospitals like the one in Benson. […] To try to make the numbers work, some facilities will have to start looking at services to potentially cut.”

Little Rock, Arkansas “On Independence Day, President Trump signed the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ into law, cutting nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 41% of childbirths in Arkansas are covered by Medicaid. And experienced medical experts like Dr. Jane Miers of the Sherwood Family Medical Center are voicing their concerns. ‘It has the potential to be devastating.’ Dr. Miers recognizes that many Arkansans will feel the effects of Medicaid cuts, especially the nearly 40% who live in rural areas.”

New Orleans, Louisiana“Well, changes in cuts to Medicaid are coming and they are raising concerns at rural hospitals in Louisiana. […] [W]hen Congress recently approved those deep cuts to the Medicaid program, and new eligibility requirements for it, rural hospitals began to worry about what all of that could mean for their future and the communities that they serve.”

Brewer, Maine – “After already closing down one hospital back in May, Northern Light Health is bracing for the impact of Medicaid cuts included in the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act.’ […] It increases the cost to the hospitals and to the health system overall.”

Bismarck, North Dakota“Krisanna Peterson works multiple jobs and has been on Medicaid since North Dakota expanded the program at the start of 2014. Medicaid expansion extended the options to allow more low-income adults to become eligible for the program. It allowed people previously not eligible to receive assistance they need. Peterson says it has changed her life. […] The ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ will make it harder to stay on Medicaid when the cuts take effect at the end of 2026.”

Tulsa, Oklahoma “Several Oklahoma hospitals are at risk of closing after cuts to federal Medicaid programs. […] The Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform estimates the budget cuts could mean closure for 60% of Oklahoma’s rural hospitals. Some hospital leaders say it will affect their ability to maintain facilities and offer the health care people need, including OBGYN Services.”

Salt Lake City, Utah“Rural Communities across Utah are feeling a major loss following the passage of Congress’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’ Rural health care providers are telling us [the law] could make basic health services that much harder for you to reach. […] This is just a huge loss for the rural community in general because rural health care providers say the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ will not only negatively affect residents in rural areas, but also rural hospitals. 21 rural hospitals throughout Utah are bracing for change after the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ passed earlier this month.”

Middleton, Wisconsin“The Senior Director of Programming [at Wayforward Resources, Madison Food Pantry] says her team is planning for possible impacts after the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ was signed into law. When we think about potential cuts to SNAP or Medicaid, we are concerned about that for our community.”
