LOCAL NEWS ROUNDUP >> HARMS OF GOP’S BILLIONAIRE TAX SCAM MAKING HEADLINES ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Washington, DC While Congressional Republicans desperately try to spin their unpopular Billionaire Tax Scam over the August recess, their constituents are hearing the truth about the law from local news. From hospital and nursing home closures to food banks pushed to the brink, Republicans can’t hide that their Tax Scam will raise costs on working families and gut essential programs, all to give massive tax breaks to billionaires. Here’s just some recent coverage sharing the truth with Americans from coast to coast:

Local TV Coverage

Huntsville, Alabama“Since the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ was passed by Congress last month, there has been concern among some advocacy groups that the bill will make it harder for Alabamians in need to get assistance that they’ve gotten in the past.”

Evansville, Indiana“Delayed treatments, canceled doctor’s visits, skipped prescriptions, losing insurance is bad for your health. The Congressional Budget Office forecasts the uninsured population in the U.S. will grow by 10 million in 2034. Due to the tax and spending bill signed into law by President Trump, it will become harder for many people to enroll in Medicaid or individual insurance plans and stay covered. They also predict the lack of care may cause nearly 22,000 deaths annually.”

Marengo, Iowa “Leaders at a rural hospital in eastern Iowa are bracing for a rise in demand ahead of changes to Medicaid under the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act.’ … Officials at Compass Memorial Hospital in Marengo say about one in ten patients rely on the coverage, and that once Medicaid cuts take effect, the entire local health care system could see impacts.”

Lexington, Kentucky “Health care in Kentucky is facing a tough future with billions in Medicaid cuts on the horizon. The leader of the Kentucky Hospital Association telling state lawmakers an estimated 35 hospitals could close. Most would be in rural areas. The hospitals are dependent on Medicaid to cover the cost of care. Hospitals are already starting to review which important medical services they may need to cut completely.”

Lufkin, Texas“SNAP benefits are expected to be cut as part of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ signed into law by the President on July 4th. Food pantries could see the brunt of those cuts. One east Texas food bank says they have seen an increase in demand this year. Yulonda Richards is the Executive Director of the CISC food pantry in Lufkin. She says with both federal cuts and higher grocery prices, food pantries need support more than ever.”

Rhinelander, Wisconsin – “Changes at the federal level have put food pantries across the country and the families that depend on them at risk … [Rhinelander area Food Pantry, Executive Director Courtney Smith] says that recent cuts to social safety net programs like Medicaid and SNAP will drive more shoppers in.”

Syracuse, New York – “No matter what kind of health insurance you use, Syracuse hospitals expect upcoming Medicaid cuts to impact everyone. President Trump and Republican allies passed sweeping Medicaid spending reductions that will take effect over the next few years. In Syracuse, the leaders of two major hospital systems are warning this will lead to longer emergency room wait times and the elimination of critical services.”

Bismarck, North Dakota“The ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ plans to cut funding for a lot of programs that benefit workers and families making less than 50 thousand dollars per year. That’s according to the White House’s website. And some of the cuts could limit access to programs like free lunch for low-income kids. … For some students, accessibility to these meals could be at risk, with SNAP funds being cut by $186 billion after the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ was signed into law. In North Dakota, 130,000 students are enrolled in schools that offer free or reduced meals.”
