LOCAL NEWS ROUNDUP >> COAST TO COAST COVERAGE EXPOSES EXTREME HARM OF GOP’S BILLIONAIRE TAX SCAM

Washington, DC While Republicans are struggling to “rebrand” their Billionaire Tax Scam during the August recess, local outlets are telling the real story: The GOP passed a toxic law that kicks millions off health insurance and food assistance in order to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy. Here is just some of the recent local coverage highlighting the damage of Republicans’ billionaire-first law:

Local TV Coverage

Louisville, Kentucky “The birthing place will not open later this year as previously expected here at Mary & Elizabeth Hospital. UofL Health says the pause is because of cuts to Medicaid funding. […] With this project put on hold for the foreseeable future, there’s no telling when another baby will be delivered at a hospital west of I-65.”

New Orleans, Louisiana“[T]onight, thousands of Louisiana families could have less food on their tables. It comes after a new law was proposed to cut back or decrease their SNAP benefits. […] New data implies President Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful, Bill’ would cut $186 million in SNAP benefits nationwide. In Louisiana, more than 400,000 families could lose some or all benefits over the next two years.”

Hillsdale, Michigan“Hillsdale Hospital says Medicaid cuts pose a threat to rural health care. […] Now with Medicaid cuts coming from President Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’, Hillsdale Hospital feels it’s time to take action to make their voices heard.”

Kansas City, Missouri “Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ contains the largest ever cuts to federal support for health coverage. The massive domestic bill and a new rule from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services expected to leave millions more people without health care. For rural communities, that initiative makes it difficult for patients to seek the medical care they need.”

Laconia, New Hampshire – “Rural access to health care is shrinking in New Hampshire as providers prepare for cuts that passed in the recent federal budget. […] Health First in the Lakes Region is a federally qualified health center providing care to underserved and rural populations. Thirty to forty percent of its patients’ bills are paid through Medicaid, so the budget cuts coming at the federal level really mean cuts here at the local level.”

Rio Rancho, New Mexico – “It’s only a matter of time until federal Medicaid cuts go into effect, potentially affecting tens of thousands of New Mexicans. Desert Mountain Healing is one of the providers that could see big impacts. It’s a non-profit based in Rio Rancho that provides an intensive outpatient program for New Mexicans in recovery from substance abuse and mental health disorders. […] If Medicaid is cut, these patients have an even harder time figuring out where to go or what to do.”

Charlotte, North Carolina – “Families in North Carolina are beginning to see cuts to Medicaid benefits after the passing of the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ in July. […] Advocates for Medically Fragile Kids NC works with families who have children with special needs. Many of those families get access to a program under Medicaid that allows parents to act as caregivers. The co-founder says federal cuts have stripped down essential services, and more families are now getting denied.”

Austin, Texas “Advocates say increased access to [Narcan] has played a big role in the decline of opioid deaths. […] But there’s worry it won’t last. Philip Van Guilder with American Addiction Centers is concerned Medicaid cuts from President Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ will impact Narcan distribution. ‘Funding that pays for all that Narcan will go away, or be reduced, because of this bill, because of the way this bill’s changed things.’ And he says it could halt the progress that has been made.”

La Crosse, Wisconsin “Federal funding cuts from the Trump administration are hitting La Crosse county’s Health and Human Services hard. […] These cuts force staff reductions, limit training, and shift program priorities. New work requirements for food share and Medicaid will reduce funding and increase workload, making it harder for people who rely on these programs to get help, officials say.”
