Washington, DC GOP lawmakers are scrambling to spin their Billionaire Tax Scam this recess, but the devastating impacts of their tax law are on full display in local news across the country. Here’s just some of the local coverage breaking through nationwide:

Local TV Coverage

Louisville, Kentucky“In Louisville, Saint Vincent de Paul works as a campus full of community services, shelter for the unhoused, addiction services for people in recovery, and the kitchen to feed those looking for a hot meal. But recent reporting from the Congressional Budget Office estimates nearly two and a half million Americans will lose their SNAP benefits under President Trump’s domestic policy bill.”

Baton Rouge, Louisiana “A child advocacy group warns the health of low-income children here in Louisiana is at risk. The reason, budget cuts to SNAP programs that feed half a million families live below the poverty line here in our state.”

Portland, Maine“For more than a decade, home and community based services have helped thousands across the state. But now, with President Trump and Congressional budget cuts, including to Medicaid, it’s going to hurt people with disabilities who use those services. […] Olivia McDermott is a Maine woman living with down syndrome. Through home and community based services, Olivia has a support worker. […] With recent cuts in federal funding, Olivia’s mom, Maura McDermott, says she has concerns these services could come to an end.”

Baltimore, Maryland“As thousands of Marylanders risk losing some or all of their SNAP benefits, organizations are scrambling to try to meet the increased need. The SNAP program feeds more than 680,000 Marylanders every month, according to the Maryland Department of Human Services. SNAP customers will see smaller benefit amounts with some SNAP altogether.”

Westbury, New York – “On Long Island, a nonprofit focused on fighting substance abuse is voicing concerns that federal Medicaid cuts could impact the ground that they have made when it comes to reducing overdose deaths. And they say their clients are worried about losing coverage, and they’ve even had to abandon plans for a new facility.”

York, Pennsylvania – “Federal budget cuts are set to take a bite out of food assistance programs and community corner stores say they’ll be feeling the pinch too. In neighborhoods where fresh produce is scarce, these small shops are often a lifeline. […] Budget cuts passed in the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ last month threaten to ripple through neighborhoods, affecting that access. In York, Dauphin, and Cumberland counties alone, nearly fourteen percent of people are enrolled in federal nutrition programs like SNAP. State officials estimate the latest round of cuts will leave over six thousand Pennsylvanians without access to nutritious foods.”

Waco, Texas“As families across Texas get ready for back to school, many are also scrambling to provide nutritious meals for their student. Millions of Texans benefit from SNAP programs, and many families rely heavily on free school breakfast and lunches for their students. […] The Trump administration’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ [will] cut millions from SNAP and shift its cost to states.”
